Hey everyone.

Things are still really busy here but we did get a new page out.

If you’re a new reader and you don’t know what’s going on, the past few weeks have been guest art and weren’t part of the main story arc. The current story arc features a visit from Treiss’s parents. In this comic they’re getting ready to go to a movie. In the mean time, Hank and Bear have been sent on a mission of, uh, “oblivious” discovery. I thought Sheogorath was hilarious in Oblivion, so he gets periodic inside jokes here. Feel free to visit our archives if you’re confused.

While I’m on the subject of role-playing games, I’ve been tinkering with the idea of programming an old-school game in the style of Ultima or The Magic Candle. It’d be tile based and the graphics would be “simple”. I think that it’d take me about 18 months to complete the game. Is anyone else interested in that style of computer RPG? I know that the audience for it is niche and dedicated. Please let me know what you think in the comments section.

Just so new readers know what is going on, this is the last of the guest comics. We plan to return to our regular artist and storyline next week. Right now, we update on Mondays.

Thanks to everyone that had Fallout 3 suggestions last week. I hope to try some of them out.

I do read all the comments that get posted to the board, but I don’t always get a chance to respond to them until later in the week.

If you’re curious about our setup, Catena Comics really does consists of just two people. I handle all the blog stuff, the web stuff, the writing, some of the coloring, the bills, and a bunch of other stuff, and Tracy (my wife) does the drawing, the shading, the designs, the lettering, the inking, and the finish work. It takes us about a day and a half to get a page done. Because we work on projects outside Catena, we often end up doing our comic on Saturday so it’ll be ready for Sunday night.

What’s a weekend? :)

We do have to take a weekend sometimes though – otherwise we go crazy. This weekend was one of those times and we decided to hit the renaissance fair. We both wore garb and wandered around with friends until we melted into small pools of over-heated wool and leather. It was hot. We still had a lot of fun though. Does anyone else like to go to those? I love them.

He-Man and She-Ra are guilty pleasures.

Today’s comic was drawn by Gloria Pike, just like last week’s. We have one more that she drew for us and then we’ll get back to our regularly scheduled story. Thanks again to Gloria!

In gaming news, I’ve been playing through Fallout 3 again. I found some nice mods that make the game harder and a little more “realistic”. I made it all the way through Point Lookout and now I’m trying to do something in the Lincoln Memorial. I need to play through The Pitt and then move on to the alien spaceship before Fallout: New Vegas comes out.

Does anyone out there enjoy Fallout? Let me know if you know of any good mods for it.

Hey everyone!

We entered “crunch time” on a book deal so we are using our supply of guest comics to fill the gap.

Today’s comic was done by Gloria Pike. Please be nice to Gloria! The questionable writing is still mine. :) We have two more guest comics by her coming up this month. After that the regular story will resume and you’ll find out what happened to Hank and Bear in the cave – I promise! I thought “guest comics” might be fun and I hope you agree.

Tony at Calamities of Nature has been helping us (via his helpful blog) get things set up for print and advertisements. Being able to make money from the comic will let us eat and keep everyone entertained at the same time. It is important that we eat. Check Tony’s work out when you get the chance. He has tutorials around the site on various subjects useful to webcomic authors – seek and you will find.

The Top Web Comics vote button now has a vote incentive. So if you vote for us you get an image out of the deal. It’s big enough for a wallpaper depending on the size of your desktop. The image should show up automatically, but since is the first time we’ve done vote incentives please let me know if it doesn’t work properly. This week’s incentive is a large format version of Treiss from a prior comic. Vote for us and see what I mean. You’re never so old that your Mom can’t tell you what to do.

The boys are having fun – at least until the screaming starts.

I’d like to say “Thanks!” to all the long time readers out there. I’d also like to welcome the new folks. If you’re confused, just hit the archives. For about two years now, the comic has run mini-stories that last around 30 strips or so. Eventually these stories will be collected into books and sold, but for now just enjoy the digital versions.

For those still unaware, comments are now ON. I had to add a “captcha” to the e-mail form on the “About the Authors” page because I kept getting weird spam. Hopefully that will help defeat it.

If the text on the comic seems out of focus, let me know. I’m trying to keep the downloads small so the page doesn’t take forever to load. If I’ve compressed it too much I can go back and make a new one and re-upload. Just let me know.

I played a bunch of Team Fortress 2 over the weekend and finally scored the soldier’s bugle (the Buff banner). It’s pretty handy, but I wish that the “rage” meter would regenerate on its own. I got a “gold medal” for having played so long. TF2 is definitely one of my guilty pleasures.
