Doing this comic slays me.

Hur-hur-hur.

Props go out to the crew that animated the original Slayers, because drawing all those costumes is a heck of a lot of work. I can’t imagine doing it thousands of times.

Slayers is a goofball anime series that has the distinct feel of somebody’s D&D campaign – on a lot of booze.

We like Belle as our Naga stand-in. I think Belle likes Belle as our Naga stand-in. Patches is playing, err, Not-Lina, who wields the most dangerous spell around – ever. This doesn’t seem like a good thing for Patches to have. Uh, unfortunately for Buddy, the size of her bust comes into question a lot.

If you’re not familiar with Slayers, you can check it out on Hulu, or you can visit the official Funimation site. If you’re overly familiar with Slayers, just know that we’re mashing all the series together, including the movies. These anime-inspired clips are going to move fast and furious, so hang on tight.

Patches shouldn’t sleep with the TV on. She really shouldn’t.

For the next segment, we’re going to parody a lot of anime. We’ve even started with our parody of another parody. Guess which one. It’s fun.

If you hate anime, feel free to wander off to one of the many comics on our links list for a few weeks. Bring us a souvenir if you make it back. :)

In other events, I’m anxiously awaiting news this week that will hopefully give us some flexibility in the future. Cross your fingers!

I’m also hopelessly addicted to Minecraft. Who knew that a game about crunching blocks up could be so darned addictive? It’s basically a sandbox style game with no particular way to “win”. You make your own goals and make them happen however you want. The only thing you really have to avoid are the few monsters that come out at night. The game had a massive surge in popularity for some reason, so the website got taken down to its bare minimum to keep it going. I suspect they’ll have it fixed in a week or so, but you can still download the client and play in single player mode while things are being fixed. Note that the client won’t automatically download sound effects like it’s supposed do during the website’s downtime. I give it five thumbs up for addictive gameplay.

We’re going to be pretty busy for a while. Tracy got some more coloring work and I’m knee deep in trying to figure out why my home-brewed program isn’t working. There’s no voting incentive this week.

I’m not sure Patches has the hang of cosplay.

Our deepest thanks to Jonas who worked on the spot to send us some much needed art this week. Check out his Deviant Art page while you’re surfing. He’s got a lot of neat art and we hope to work with him again in the future.

I should probably note that I have a huge Felicia wall scroll above my computer monitor, and that we own a ton of anime DVDs, so all our anime jokes come from love. Looooove.

As you might have guessed by now, we made it back from Tennessee safe and sound. We have some house guests over so things are still on “vacation time”. Next week we’ll start the new Catena storyline, which will feature of lot of anime references. If you’re not familiar with anime, worry not. I’ll post videos and wiki links for the confused.

We met some great folks at MFM, including the Carspeckens who do a long-running (and very cool) comic called Faux Pas. After the convention was over, we traveled further to meet with Scott Sava and his wonderful family. Scott has a 1100+ page online comic called The Dreamland Chronicles that you definitely ought to check out.

We’ll try to do some “merch” soon since everyone seems to be requesting it. By soon, I’m guessing it’ll be later in the fall or winter. We’re sort of all over the place at the moment.

What’s a domovoi?

Think of them as Russian house spirits. I guess Mama did some baking before she left.

I’d like to extend thanks to all the Russians who played along with our jokes. Cross-cultural humor is difficult by itself, and Russia is a massive country with a rich history and culture on top of that. Perhaps someday we will be able to visit.

I hope that everyone had a nice laugh and I’m sure we’ll see Treiss’s parents again!

This weekend we’re out of town at the MFM convention, so there’s no voter incentive. Please have a great week and we’ll start a new story when we return.
