In other news…

Catena is still on hiatus.  We go on hiatus when we have to take on other jobs that keep us from doing Catena (eg: most of the coloring work we do involves a 60 hour work week).  I’m hoping a Kickstarter campaign might help with that.

I don’t have a specific date for when things will return to normal.  Like so many things in life, it depends.  :)

Oh yes, I like Skyrim.  So does Bear.  Playing in winter adds to the immersion factor!

I’m hoping that the Catena reboot will start towards the end of fall, but it might be winter.  The Catena schedule depends on how quickly our other jobs go.

Here’s another concept design for the Catena reboot.

From left to right it’s Annie, Oskar, and Bryony.  They’re teenagers now.  The angels are getting a fresh shot at life so you’ll have a chance at seeing more of their personalities.

The koi’s name is Su-in.  I don’t think she does any talking.  That’s your trivia for the week.

Oskar is a new cat to the family.  He’s a big grey kitten we found on the street and took in.  His eyes are sort of outlined by “guyliner” so we’re making him a bit goth for the comic.  Oskar complains about *everything* and is loud enough to wake you up at night.  I hadn’t introduced him to the strip yet, but he’ll be a regular.

Only hardcore Sailor Moon fans will probably get this.  That’s why we left this one out of the original anime arc.  I still thought it was funny enough to post as an outtake.

Sometimes humor that references relatively obscure cartoons gets really obscure when you consider that the material in question may have aired a lot differently in other countries.  Early ports of anime here got chopped up to make it “kid friendly”.  It was pretty bad, but sometimes it also became awesomely bad – or just made for some really, really odd situations.

The Catena reboot will probably have less focus on pop culture humor since I’d like for it to live within its own world.  With that said, I would like to do another anime arc sometime.  That may take on a life of its own as an infrequent spin-off or something.  Time and funding will tell really.

Talk about it on the Facebook group, the Livejournal, or read up on the Sailor Wiki if you’re not sure what’s going on in the strip. 

I hope everyone has managed to stay out of the blistering heat.  It is absolutely brutal here.  The grass has gone crunchy and it’s even hot at night.

I’m working on a new Catena series in which the characters have more character and I don’t have to end every single page with a joke.  While we’re in the midst of redesign, the cast is getting new haircuts and wardrobes.  These are a few of the ideas that have been tossed around so far.  If Annie looks a little older it’s because she is.

Wait, is that Bryony?  Hmmmm…

Everyone will return, and they’ll still be themselves, but over the course of the story they’ll just get a lot more attention paid to them individually.  I’m aiming to treat everyone as an actor instead of a prop.  The voices in my head say the cast appreciates it.  The voices in my head also tell me to eat cookies instead of green vegetables, so we’ll see how this ends up.

The Catena Facebook, my Twitter, e-mail, and LJ all allow comments, so if you want to comment, use one of those features. 

I hope people like the new direction.

Oh yes!  It has come to our attention that someone cosplayed Hank and Treiss at Anthrocon.  If you’ve got a picture of that and you want it on the FB page please e-mail me a copy.   Fans like you guys are extra awesome.   Please only mail me if you’re the cosplayers.  I don’t want to put someone’s picture on the FB page if they don’t want it there.
